Temple’s Big Cheque Surprise: Rs 100 Crore Dream, Rs 17 Reality!
A Devotee’s Rs 100 Crore Cheque Drops into Vizag Temple Hundi, but His Bank Balance Reflects Only Rs 17 A surprising discovery at Simhachalam Devasthanam in Visakhapatnam: a hefty Rs 100-crore cheque inside the temple’s hundi, which was short-lived joy for officials as the depositor’s actual bank balance turned out to be a mere Rs 17.
During the counting of offerings on Wednesday, the temple authorities stumbled upon the questionable cheque. Signed by Boddepalli Radhakrishna and issued through a corporate bank, the cheque was presented to the temple’s executive officer, Trinadha Rao.
However, further verification revealed that Radhakrishna’s bank account contained only Rs 17, and his address was elusive. Temple officials reached out to the Kotak Bank branch at MVP Colony for more information.
It was disclosed that the account linked to the issued cheque, owned by Boddepalli Radhakrishna with account number 8313295434, had a meager balance of Rs 17.
The temple authorities noted that such incidents weren’t unprecedented, with devotees previously dropping cheques with inflated amounts into the hundi. The temple administration tends to overlook such occurrences, as they consider them as charitable contributions.
As for the recent offerings, the counted hundi contributions on Wednesday totaled Rs 1.49 crore, accumulated over the span of 16 days. The collection also encompassed nearly 80 grams of gold and 10 kg of silver.
