Game Over: Jammu Operation Nabs Eight Long-Escaping Terrorists

Eight Long-Evading Terrorists Arrested in Jammu After Decades on the Run

JAMMU: In a significant breakthrough, eight absconding terrorists have been apprehended in Jammu as part of a joint operation by the State Investigation Agency (SIA) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). These individuals had managed to evade law enforcement for several decades by blending into society. The operation marks a crucial step in the effort to eliminate terrorism in the Jammu and Kashmir region.

With inputs from the CID, the SIA’s diligent work over the past months led to the successful arrest of these terrorists who were wanted in connection with cases under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act. The operation aligns with the overarching goal of eradicating terrorism in the region.

Of the 734 absconders wanted in 327 cases related to TADA and the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA), the SIA has identified and verified 369 individuals. Among them, 80 have passed away, 45 are residing in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, 127 remain untraced, and four are incarcerated.

These eight arrested absconders had been involved in acts of terrorism and disruptive activities. They were booked under TADA cases registered three decades ago in various police stations across the Doda district. Despite being on the run for years, they had managed to live inconspicuous lives, some even holding government positions, securing contracts, or engaging in private businesses.

The arrested individuals include Adil Farooq Faridi, a government employee in Jammu and Kashmir Board Of School Education; Ishfaq Ahmed, who was employed as a writer in the Doda court complex; Mohd Iqbal; Mujahid Hussain; Tariq Hussain; Ishtiaq Ahmed Dev; Ajaz Ahmed; and Jameel Ahmed.

The arrested terrorists will face legal proceedings in the TADA/POTA court in Jammu, following the warrants issued against them. Their involvement in various terrorist activities, including killings, kidnapping for ransom, and instigating violence by spreading false narratives during prayer meetings, highlights the gravity of their actions between 1991 and 1993.

In a related incident, they were also named in an FIR following the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition in the Shambaz area of Doda on June 22, 1994.

The SIA’s investigation will delve into how these absconders managed to escape law enforcement for so long and lead seemingly normal lives. This operation underscores the ongoing commitment to curbing terrorism and ensuring security in the region.
