Raging Rains Unleash Chaos in Himachal Pradesh – Shocking Details Inside!
Himachal Pradesh Grapples with Devastating Rains: 21 Lives Lost in 24 Hours; 16 Fatalities in Shimla, Solan
The relentless heavy downpours in Himachal Pradesh have resulted in severe consequences, with the Beas River swelling to create flood-like conditions in various areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow’ alert, indicating the potential for heavy rainfall in the state on Monday. As a precautionary measure, the state government has declared the closure of all schools and colleges due to the incessant rain, which has triggered landslides, leading to road blockages in the last 24 hours. The IMD also predicts isolated heavy rainfall in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim today.
According to the state emergency operation center, a total of 621 roads are currently closed for vehicular traffic in Himachal Pradesh, with the highest number, 236, in Mandi, followed by 59 in Shimla, and 40 in Bilaspur district. The Shimla-Kalka National Highway, a critical route connecting Shimla and Chandigarh, has been severely impacted by recurring landslides over the past two weeks.
On Sunday, a substantial number of large vehicles found themselves marooned on both sides of the road at Chakki Mor, near Koti in Solan, due to ongoing sliding, leading to impeded traffic throughout the entire day. Alternate routes are being used to divert smaller vehicles.
The local Meteorological (MeT) station in Himachal Pradesh has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning at isolated locations from August 14 to 17, predicting a wet spell in the state until August 19. Other parts of Northwest India expect light to moderate rainfall, with scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and isolated heavy rainfall possible over Uttarakhand until August 17, and over Punjab, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh until August 14.
The forecast from the IMD indicates that there will be light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, with isolated instances of heavy rainfall activity expected over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim until Tuesday. In addition, there’s a forecast of similar weather over Gangetic West Bengal on August 16 and 17, while Odisha and Jharkhand are projected to experience this weather pattern from August 15 to 17. Similarly, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are expected to encounter this weather from August 14 to 16.
In Northeast India, the IMD predicts light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall activity likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from Sunday to August 17.
For Central, West, and South India, the IMD forecasts light to moderate isolated to scattered rainfall, with isolated heavy rainfall activity expected over East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on August 16 and 17. Subdued rainfall activity is expected in the remaining parts of these regions over the next 7 days, according to the weather agency.
