Yemen in Crisis: 10 Soldiers Slain by Houthi Rebels
Houthi Rebels Kill 10 Yemen Soldiers: Military Sources Report Deadly Attack Yemen, a nation plagued by ongoing conflict, faced another blow as Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched a surprise attack, claiming the lives of 10 soldiers from a southern separatist faction.
The assault shattered over a year of relative calm in the region, leaving 12 others wounded in the violence. The rebels struck in the border region between the southern provinces of Lahj and Al-Bayda, catching military personnel off-guard.
Four Houthi fighters also lost their lives in the confrontation, with no immediate response from the rebel group. The attack specifically targeted a site manned by separatists with ambitions of establishing an independent South Yemen, mirroring the region’s history until 1990.
The renewed violence has sparked concerns about Yemen’s stability, as the country has struggled with ongoing conflict since the Houthi capture of Sanaa in 2014, prompting Saudi-led military intervention in support of the government. Despite intermittent ceasefires and peace efforts, Yemen continues to grapple with devastating humanitarian challenges, leaving millions in need of assistance.
