Alert: New COVID Variant Strikes! Urgent Hygiene Measures Required Again in South Africa – Shocking Details Unveiled!
In Light of New COVID Variant, Prioritizing Hygiene Remains Crucial for South Africans – Sama Advises
CAPE TOWN – The South African Medical Association (SAMA) has issued guidance for the public to once again prioritize hygiene and adhere to recommended public health measures. This advice comes in response to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) announcement of a new COVID-19 variant, denoted as the E variant or EG.5, also known as Eris. Despite its potential for increased infections, the WHO has indicated that this variant is not likely to result in heightened severity of illness.
As of now, there have been no confirmed cases of the EG.5 variant in South Africa. Dr. Mvuyisi Mzukwa, a representative of the association, shared insights from virologists and experts: “This variant appears to be quite transmissible, more so than other sub-variants. It has the potential to rapidly infect a substantial number of people, with potential ramifications extending beyond our borders.”
However, Mzukwa emphasized that the available information suggests that this variant doesn’t pose a significant danger. He explained, “The impact of the virus largely depends on the individual who gets infected. Those with underlying health conditions such as diabetes, kidney failure, heart failure, or who are above the age of 65 are at a higher risk of severe illness if infected by this virus.”
In light of these developments, the focus on maintaining hygiene practices and following established health guidelines has been underscored once again to prevent potential transmission and safeguard vulnerable individuals.
