Russia’s Shocking Accusations at BRICS Summit

BRICS Summit: Russia Alleges Violation of Black Sea Grain Deal by Western Nations

Accusations have arisen as Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister, expressed doubts about the West’s commitment to upholding the stipulations of the Black Sea grain deal affecting Russia. Following a BRICS group meeting spanning three days, Lavrov conveyed uncertainty regarding the implementation of the grain deal, stating, “For now, we don’t see these signs,” during a news conference in Johannesburg. Lavrov is scheduled to confer with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres later in the day to discuss the agreement.

Last month, Moscow withdrew from the agreement, which initially enabled the sale of grain from Black Sea ports in Ukraine. Russia’s withdrawal stemmed from concerns that the agreement’s framework failed to ensure the passage of its own grain and fertilizer shipments, due to Western sanctions. The accord, facilitated by the UN and Turkey in July 2022, aimed to address soaring global food prices, primarily triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Notably, both Russia and Ukraine are key grain exporters.
